The genetic term for this is polydactyl! 6 toes. We were blessed with 2 kittens today. I guess it is A good thing there were only 2. Both mom and dad have 6 toes. It is A ressive jean. I haven't had a chance to see how many toes they have yet. mom seems to be taking good care of them. This is her 1st litter. FYI Earnest Hemmingway had a island with only 6 toed cats. at Angles Rest Ranch.
Makes me miss my polydactyl cat. Been gone for 4 years now. Cute kittens...makes me want to get another one, and then I remeber kitty litter duty. :-)

they seem rather advanced for day old kittens
I must be missing something. I count 5 toes on the only paw showing.

I have one!!! Her name is Sparkle and she has 7 toes on each front foot and 5 on each back foot. I have tried and tried to get photos of her feet but she just won't cooperate. I'll keep trying!
Congratulations on those adorable kittens!!!
Too bad backward Jean does not have the genes that automatically transfer the killers where they belongs...

You want to see 6 toed cats ? Go to Key West, FL and visit the Hemingway house. Lots of them reside there.

Those kittens are cute! When they're small they look like all feet, sometimes the toes are more like a dewclaw without a bone structure, just a small pad with a claw. I had several of these cats years ago, a friend gave us a kitten with 6 toes on each foot so we called her Six Pack. Most of the offspring were polydactyl and the gene was passed through several generations. They interbred cousins/cousins, one even had 7 toes but was badly deformed with the hind legs almost turned backwards.

Is that how you interpreted his comment? Thank you; it's nice to know that somebody can decipher his obtuse ravings.
Misspelled two but mostly posted in the wrong area. This thread has since been moved.
A "ressive jean"?
Our brain works in such a way that it automatically correct errors or let us see only what we want to see. Convenient for many, right, Mogul?
