I saved a photo as .psd in PS6; however, when I try to save it as .jpg, I get the following message: "Could not save (name of the file) because the file is locked, you do not have permissions or another program is using the file. Use the properties command in the Windows Explorer to unlock the file." This has never happened to me before and I do not have the file locked, as far as I can tell. Does anyone have a suggestion as to how I can save it as .jpg?
A program may have the file in use. Slide shows, word processing or several others.
Computer guy here. Lightcatcher is right. Try a cold shutdown of the computer and then see what happens.

Thank you, Lightcatcher and Mr. PC. I shut down the computer and then restarted it. Afterwards, I was able to save the file as a .jpg.

This has happened to me a few times when using old files. Rather than rebooting and loosing all the work I'd done, I went to Image>Duplicate, to make a copy of the file. I was the able to convert and save it as I pleased.
Probably not the solution - but it worked
