Yes, thanks. I shoot raw at 14-bit depth, and use Photoshop/ACR9, which I have set for my camera and preferences. I review each PP within my workflow. My present interest is how to avoid overreaching, especially in another's eyes.

On my crop which I sent to you I slightly increased vibrancy and clarity, both of which you can easily do in Camera raw or Lightroom. In my crop I did these adjustments to set up more color contrast and making the sky a bit more blue. The fun of working with Raw images is that you have literally thousand of tweaks you can to to bring out the best in your photo with out them looking over-processed.

No, William, it's Hochosterwitz, which you can find on Google.

I agree entirely with tsilva's assessment of your photo, with one more suggestion.

Since the gravel adds nothing to the photo, I would have had the couple walk back closer to the tree line. Then shooting from a lower perspective would bring the castle into the photo and eliminating most if not all of the gravel.

It looked something like Gussing, but it was more built up. My
family comes from near there, and I have been there many times.
My mother comes from Konigsdorf, which is about 12 miles from Gussing. It is near the Hungarian border. Thank you gor the response.

Thank you all for your valuable suggestions. The reason for the place and time of day was simple logistics. After the hike up, exploring the museum, having a beer (or two) in the courtyard, and sauntering back down through the circled gates, the sun was at 1330 hrs., when we had about two hours drive to cocktails and dinner. We took the liberty of using a small pull-off by a field gate, but we didn't feel free to walk over the farmer's fresh planting of whatever it was.

So we coped, and now we do what we might to save a memorable day.

Again, thanks for the review.

We often visit a very good friend in Himmelberg, Karten, about 20 miles west of the castle (as the crow flies) and just 5 miles northwest of Feldkirchen. We have been returning to the area every 5 years or so since 1957. Lovely part of the world.

My bad, I didn't realize that that was a planted field; if I had, I wouldn't have made that comment.

Not a problem. As I'm sure you know, travel candids present challenges.

Fed,
Here is another crop where I did some adjusting for clarity, shadows and vibrancy as well as used a little dodge on the mans face. I opened your jpg in Raw but what I can do is more limited than you can in the RAW format. Again, its all a matter of preference

I see what you mean, and value the input and effort, but that pop wasn't there at the time, which raises another PP question that may have no answer...how much recovery, etc., how much artistic license, is sufficient to recreate the scene? I ask, because some with good memories and color vision prefer their original recall (yet favoring some pop).

Always something to think about.
