I chewed out a few colonels in my 22 year career. They didn't like it when I cited chapter & verse in the regs explaining why I couldn't do what they wanted done. Then my boss, who was also a colonel, would call me and ask me to use a little more tact the next time. I retired as a MSgt from the Air Force.

Master Sargents think they run things, but the pass the blame to any officer available when things go wrong.
