Any comments on a better way to ID these things.

The lobster mushroom is suppost to taste like lobster. I get my info from the National Audubon society field guide to mushrooms.

The gormet Morels (morchella,) delicious, are being harvested in WV now but folks that have a crop are so secretive and protective, unless one just happens on them, no photos.

You always take a gamble when harvesting wild mushrooms. There have been noted field mycologists that have died because they miss-ID'd the species.
