I'm building one now. Sure, you can buy one pre-built but where's the fun in that. Not quite as expensive as photography but a lot to learn.
Did you get it with the Gimbal? What camera are you using with it?
I haven't actually bought the gimbal or camera yet but I'm thinking along the lines of a video camera like this one :

I've heard pretty serious rumors that the Lily pre-order is a major scam and that there is a high likelihood that it will never be produced. Neat video on it however... :|
Seems unlikely. It was started by two guys with a good reputation from Cal Berkley. They have raised $1 million of angel money from significant investors. They have been written up in Forbes among everywhere else. Anything is possible but they have been doing live demos it to various news organizations.

As indicated, just rumors, but well placed. What I've read is that they have not perfected 'object avoidance' and the current auto software only works in 'free space' and even then, the software responds somewhat radically to close by objects.
You might want to consider clicking on 'guote reply' in the future as I wasn't sure for a moment what post you were referring to....
I've been seriously wanting to get one of these birds for aerial footage. The Yuneec Typhoon+ was #1 on my list until I discovered it will NOT function above 8000' altitude (verified with Ryan at Yuneec Tech Service). Since my summer stay is at 8700' that blew this particular quad out of the air. Sad, as it had the most stable camera platform I'd seen on reviews (in its price range).

You are positive that does not mean 'above sea level'? Must be some internal GPS limitation if not....
I think I am going through a GAS attach myself with this. I have been trying to convince myself how bad I need one and all I could do with it. I recommend that you look at ebay, besides amazon. There are so many of them and fluctuate from $50.00 to $3000.00 it all depend on the range, fly time, MP, lift capacity. You could even fly your own present camera equipment and/or even your GoPro if you have one and don't want to put your more expensive equipment on it. Also there is a lot of places where they have install anti drone equipment to avoid you from flying around.
I was checking the quality of the recording of the inspire DJI and it was pretty good, I must admit, but when I checked the price on ebay it is close to $3000.00. You could get a better rig where you could use your own camera equipment for much less and have much better fly capabilities.

Uh-Oh, GAS has stricken me again. Actually with all the floods down here in TX, I've seen some pretty cool videos taken with these gadgets. It seem they could be alot of fun around the lake here.I don't know much about them. Can anybody send me a link to some that are worth having. It seems they range from 200 to ???.
Anyway any advice will be appreciated.
You just have to dig deeper, they range from truly occasional /beginner, to the seasond user (also reflected in the price at around $30.000-35.000)!

To me, 8000' above sea level means 8000' altitude.
In my drone research I saw that a poster on another forum stated that he had one and it would not work above 7000' altitude. He said you could start it 5' lower than that and it would then fly above the limit, but that if at or above the limit it simply would not come on. He said Yuneec Tech affirmed this.
Just last week I emailed Ryan Kephart at Yuneec and he confirmed that it would not work at altitudes above 8000' (not 7000') and that there was no correction available nor coming.
His response: "Unfortunately, we do not have a fix for an altitude over 8000. I wish I could help you out.

I actually said that incorrectly. Should've said above 'ground level'.... Still may be a sensor thing however....

i just ordered a DJI Phantom 1.1.1 from B&H. They had it with an extra free battery for the Phantom, 4 free rechargeable AA batteries & charger for the transmitter. Price was $350 & free shipping.
This particular model comes with a Go-Pro camera mount.
I have some other Quads, but not as good as the Phantom. But they are OK for learning the basics of operating them.
