How many colors can you see?

I'm confused, How can some people see more colors that they say that they are showing? Does that mean that their eye site is better than the people doing the test? I understand how people can see less than what they are showing.

Interesting isn't it? That so many people report more that are there. Almost as if they never bothered to go to the web site or bothered to read the other posts. :(

If the bands are uniformly wide, there are 44. If not uniformly wide, then 39.

It may be a difference in the computer monitors that may give more than 39 colors.

I see 3, red, green & blue the rest are shades of these 3.
This is one of the first things I learned about photography 35+ years ago!
