A few nights ago I heard a weird type of barking or screaching at around 3:00 AM. My neighbor, who knows animals, says it's foxes making the noise. There are at least two of them, and I can tell by the change in volume as they move around. As much as I'd like to get pictures, I'm going searching through the woods at 3:00 AM. At least our dogs have stopped barking at them.

Have them in our garden as well jerry
I watched (from inside) a fox trot down our walkway in front of the picture window. Can't tell if I've seen more than one or the same one several times. There was an instance when one walked about thirty feet from our 15-year-old Schnauzer who was completely oblivious to the fox.

I guess foxes don't attack dogs. We have coyotes, too, so I'm glad our dogs stay indoors or in their fenced-in yard.

Damn Jerry. I though you were going to talk about two-legged foxes.

We've seen an occasional fox now and then. We more often see coyotes here on the desert. Most of the time our coyotes live in the hills but in summer they come looking for water.
A few years ago we returned from a 2 week trip to find a Vixen and her 5 cubs camped out by our garden shed. We watched them from the house for 3 days after which she got tired of our activity and moved the whole brood further into the woods. Watching her move them was a riot. It took 3 trips and she had to physically carry the last one who didn't want to leave home.
Game Warden said more foxes are coming in to neighborhoods because of the coyote explosion. Our Jack Russell terrier has one he plays chase with. The fox comes out most evenings and barks for Bailey to come and play. I have it on Video where Bailey loses the scent and the fox barks for him to come on.

A screeching gray fox can raise the the hair on ur neck in the dark of the night. Foxes are normally very elusive I would never want to trust very far.
I swear, this really happened to me here in Denver last summer. A fox ran by me from behind, carrying a dead squirrel. About fifteen feet from me he dropped the squirrel, stopped and looked at me. We looked at each other for a few seconds, and I said, out loud, in English,
"Pick up your da---- squirrel and get out of here." I don't think he knew English but since I didn't approach him, he picked up the squirrel and took off.
I had no use for the dead animal but he had to feed his family so we were even. I'll never forget this incident.
Need a few more around here with a taste for rabbits. Wife has expensive Asian lilies in the garden that get eaten by the D#mn rabbits.
SURE---I get up at 3 a.m, too, sometimes.
Alyn ;-)
