What bird this is I do not know.
It swooped right by me fast and low.
It settled on a nearby tree.
And then it just stared down at me.

I had to crop these a lot, since it was high and far away.

Thanks. I think it begins with a "G," but it's not a grackle or a grouse or a goose - or a gander.

My vote is for a Juvenile Red-tailed Hawk, (light morph), based on the short striped tail and the speckled white "V" on its back.

Thanks. I didn't think it was a hawk. It had a large wing span.

People have posted similar pictures here, and I think the name of the bird began with a G, but a search didn't give me anything.

Red-tailed hawk seems like a good fit.
