After the Peony bloom is gone

The interest in the peony does not stop after the blooms are gone. I usually cut off the heads after they drop their petals. It makes for a neater garden. But this year after seeing so many different types photos I decided to leave a few and take photos of them as they aged. These are 3 shots that I took this week. Have since trimmed all of them.

Nicely done, Corolyn. Always heard--and don't know how true it is--that cutting off the seed heads gives a better bloom the following year, as the plant can concentrate its energy on growth, rather than reproduction. So I do it out of habit.

Thank you Earl. I thought they were interesting. The velvety feel of the pods translated to photo and I have never considered leaving one on the stem till it produced seed.

Thank you Frodo. I thought so too. Sometimes we overlook the unusual because we see it all the time and pass it by. I have begun to look at things differently since joining the UHH.

That is absolutely true. That is why I dead head everything. Some flowers re-bloom after deadheading but Peonies are not among their number. Please chef out the non photography chat page, A surprise for you.
