I have a Nikon D5200
In the camera menu it shows an HDR mode, when I go to activate it i get a message saying it can not be used with the camera in it's present condition. I have tried to activate HDR over all the modes and settings, and get the same message. Today in the store the sales guy could not help. but I did check out a new D5200 they had for sale and the same thing occurred. I guess HDR its just not available in my camera even though it's listed in the menu.
Any comments ?

I think iy only works if you are shooting JPEGS, won't work in RAW mode.it

Same for my Panasonic and Sony cameras.

Do you have to set it to multiple shot mode first - rather than single shot?

No. On my camera (D800e) you also have to turn off any bracketing. I am not really knowledgeable in this type of HDR, because I always shoot raw and process bracketed exposures in HDR Efex Pro2 (Nik, now Google).

Not to be a smart ass but the acronym RTFM comes to mind.

The procedure to follow is listed on page 71 of your D5200 user manual. If you don't have it, just Google User Manual for D5200. It comes in PDF format, easy to save. I have a D5200 and the HDR works.

I just don't like a two shot method, so I set mine up with continuous shooting, bracketing for 3 shots, set it on a tripod and go to town. I process in Photomatix Pro, and any other PP software I need.

Just google HDR.

HDR Photography | High Dynamic Range ... - Nikon
www.nikonusa.com/.../high-dynamic-range-photogra...
Nikon Corporation
With the HDR mode, multiple exposures of a scene are captured and combined—according to user selected parameters—to form the HDR photograph.

Thanks for trying to help. I have tried switching to Jpeg but HDR would not work in that setting either.
