I have a Nikon D7100. Lens include AF-S Nikkor 35mm 1:1.8G, Tameron SP AF AsphericalDi 17-35 mm 1:2.8-4, and AF-S Nikkor 70-300mm1:4.5-5.6G. Which would be best to use when shootin an indoor play and which would you think would be a good walk around lens?

I have a D7200 and recently shot my granddaughter's play. The stage was well lit and I used my Nikon 18-300 with great results. I'd suggest the 70-300 so you can get some good close-ups and the 17-35 for panoramas of the whole stage. Also the 17-35 will work better in low light. I used "A" mode and auto iso. Most of the shots were at iso 2500 and with the D7200, I couldn't see any noise on the images.

Clarification?

Stills or video? And... how close to the stage will you be?

With the 3 lenses you've listed, I'd recommend leaving the prime home and taking the 2 zooms. Try the Tamron first to see if it gives you the reach you need. The Nikon super zoom is a slower lens, but if the lighting is there you can get better close coverage if you aren't near the stage.

Hope that helps. ;)

If you yearn to shoot indoors you need to look for a lens that will allow you to shoot at the lowest ISO levels. Look at the Nikon 70-200 mm 2.8 lens. It will keep you from getting blur or out of focus photos.

What's a "walk around" lens?
