It's nice when a big company apologizes to its customers. This is the type of apology they probably like making. their P900 is selling so well that they have not been able to keep up with demand, so they apologized to their customer base.

I think that when a new model is introduced, the only thing worse than not having enough inventory is having too much. If they had thousands of P900's gathering dust on the shelves, someone at Nikon would be apologizing to his boss.

I'm kinda glad they're not available right now, or I might have one.

The same thing happened when they introduced the F4. I even knew of two professionals who switched to Canon at that time! (Both did, however, switch back within a year).

Why stop there, try apologizing for the SB900, the D800 10 pin connector, etc.......................

Well if all you are shooting is flowers, buildings and an occasional shot of a dog or cat, UHH theme. I would suspect you would not have a problem. This flash was toted as a professional quality flash. I do weddings, this flash at a wedding will quickly loose you pictures and engagements when it locks up and STOPS firing. And the SB910, I love the way they fixed it. Instead of shutting down it starts reducing power. Not what I would call a professional speedlight. I have 3 SB600, 1 SB28 and the clunker SB900. None of the others do this. In fact, the SB800 has a higher GN. Hotter flash. Search the web sof SB900 issues. You will see about 5 million other people who are complaining about this. I don't take occasional pictures, I take continuous pictures. This strobe is a pig in this area. One of Nikons biggest blunders. This is why I now have 4 Quantum QFLASH's Even the triggers on the Q's are flawless.

Once people see what this camera can do, they want one and in true Nikon quality and design, they created a winner. Winners sell. Where Nikon missed the mark is in the demand for this camera and the quality of pictures.

If they are so hard to get now, it makes you want one.

And that thought makes me ponder whether this apology from Nikon might be a clever marketing ploy. Naah! Nikon would not resort to that sort of thing would they?

It breaks at anytime, unexpectedly. Nikon, in the repair process, has implemented a better piece for the camera. Now it comes down to arguing with Nikon for a free repair. In my case I got it repaired.

Thx Bobbee...I have not had that issue with my D800 (two yrs now) but I do remember my deep disappointment to discover that after 3 Nikon DX bodies with amazingly good and cheap IR remotes and making the leap to FX I found those bodies lacking the built in remotes and only having the above mentioned crappy and very poorly located connector requiring a much more expensive separate purchase for remote operation..Thx again for info. I don't use remote much but I will be very careful with it from now on.....
