These are from my trip to Wisconsin. Yes, I am still trying to find time to go through all of them.
I was on the trail in a wooded location in a park in LaCross, WI. The weather was cloudy dark and I was under the new canopy that was emerging. The lighting wasn't ideal, but the display was brilliant to witness.
I heard a catbird call from about 30 foot away. likely because with my poor hearing, I probably would have missed this altogether if it were any farther away. I froze along the trailside and kept watching until I perceived some movement. It was the male catbird emerging from the vegetation onto a portion of broken log. The bark had exfoliated off some time before leaving him with a staging ground for what followed.
He hopped up onto the log and began calling and singing his little heart out. After a short time it appeared that he was more excited and he executed an arrangement of dances and displays...and then the girlfriend emerged from hiding. This went on for a couple of minutes before another pair showed up and started in. When all was done, neither of the ladies looked overly impressed. Such disappointment.
But they did fly off with their mates Hope you enjoy these. Again, the lighting was very poor, but you can still view the action. Enjoy
A delightful display of bird behavior David. You put us right in the middle of the action. Now I feel like a bonafide voyeur.
Very nice. Tons of bird pics on UHH, but ones like this are not typical. Light doesn't seem bad. It certainly makes the bright green foliage more electric.
Great series very nice captures of a ritual very few ever see.

I was concerned about the ISO having to shoot at ISO 1600 the noise is not too bad. These were shot with my D810 in DX mode.

I try to capture the spirit of the wildlife as well as just the appearance. It brings each photo to life for me.
