Not the way I was taught way back in drivers ed.NO mirror will eliminate blind spots. If you can't see the side of your car you have NO idea where it is looking unless you park in exactly the same spot each day and have known reference points to check the mirrors.

I see lots of drivers change lanes without looking. And that is STUPID!

If you don't look over your shoulder you are an accident waiting to happen.

When I first started driving there was only the inside rear view mirror on cars. If you wanted to have an outside one you bought it yourself. That's why you had to turn to look to see if the lane was open.

If you adjust the mirrors the way that is recommended now, you would only need to turn your head to the side to see if a car was in the lane you wanted to move into. Try it and you will notice a better rear and side view of your car.

You are NOT supposed to do that and if your mirrors are adjusted properly you will not have to.

I agree. The most I ever do is look to the right or left without turning my had all the way around and use my peripheral vision to see if there are any cars.

There is no killing off outdated ideas. If your mirrors are correctly adjusted, there is no need to have to turn your head to check. There IS not blind spot as when a target leave the rear view mirror, it moves intuit the side mirror.

Simple and far more effective and safe.

REMINDER!
You should be able to see both headlights of the vehicle you are passing in your INSIDE rear view mirror before changing lanes to make sure you are not cutting them off. This assures there is adequate space between you and them after you make the pass.

Very true.
It's the guys that FLY up behind you, in the right lane, that you gotta watch. IMHO, if you're being passed in the right lane, you're going TOO slow for the left lane.

Side-view mirrors
To adjust the driver's side-view mirror, place your head against the left side window and set the mirror so you can just barely see the side of the car in the mirror's right side.
To adjust the passenger's side-view mirror, position your head so that it is just above the center console.
