Have look aty Nikon 610. In a survey it produced high quility images at 1440mm (28-1440mm). P900 has 83Xzoom up to 2000mm both bridge cameras at the high end. I am using a Panasonic FZ1000 with a 2X converter lens which can give me 1120mm with a 1" sensor. I haven't tried the 2X yet but looks good. In close up manual produces superb sharpness.

2 lbs 3 oz, lens + TC. Or if you're into metric, just shy of 1 kg.
(And my kitchen scale has been compared with a post office scale and seems quite accurate).

But for a 2.8, that is not bad. Would the quality be better than the 75-300????

The 40-150 2.8 is one of the sharpest zooms around. Superior to the 75-300 which gets soft towards 300 - at least mine was. Go to m4/3.com and look at the 40-150 2.8 image thread. You will be impressed.

Have you used the 1.4? That would get me close to the 300 range!

I have considered the M5 II mainly for the water resistant qualities and because I am very impressed with Olympus equipment and lenses in general. But I want greater than 150 mm reach ( 300 mm equiv)

The 75-300 will give you 150-600 full frame equivalent.

I suspect the reason the 75-300 gets soft at the far end is because it's f/6.7 at the long end, and diffraction starts to be noticeable a half stop above f/5.6 in micro four thirds. Still, I don't notice it that much.

You all will think I'm crazy but I am willing to risk that - even risk the ire of the easily irritated members of this forum. I have converted mostly over to mirrorless equipment. I have the Sony a 6000 and the Olympus M-10. I like both cameras for different reasons but am satisfied with the output from both. Mostly what I do is landscape photography. I am not quite ready to give up the idea of wildlife photography (not bird photography) but I have not found any mirrorless lenses that will do the job. I am lusting for the Canon 100-400 ii lens but I don't even own Canon equipment. What I have left is a Nikon D 610 camera body and short prime lenses. I don't really want to carry around a 3.5 #+ lens but I have not found another alternative and I love what I have seen that the Canon 100-400 mm lens can do in the right hands. I know that I will be unhappy lugging around the Tamron 150-600 mm lens (at least the Canon is a pound lighter) - what to do? Just label me neurotic.

I use and can recommend the Nikon 300mm f4.5 ED IF manual focus lens - use it on the Sony with an adapter and use the 1.1-2X clear image zoom to take you to 600mm. I use mine on an A3000. Cost?? - about $250 on ebay or $300 at KEH. Make sure you get the tripod collar with it !

I looked this up and read the consumer reviews. They were mixed but overall good. What are you using this lens on- Olympus or Panasonic?
