Where? I've looked and found where photo viewing can be turned off but can't find live view turn off.

Sorry, misread your comment. You control EVF or Monitor view in the menu selection called "FINDER/MONITOR".

a2000c gave you an EXCELLENT recommendation in the Gary Friedman manual.

http://friedmanarchives.com/alpha6000/index.htm

Gary Friedman is the BEST 3rd party owners manual writer in the business and his books are OUTSTANDING.

Written in plain, easy to understand English (or Spanish), his books cover each and every function and feature of your camera in great detail. He also explains what they are, and more importantly, both when and WHY to use them.

Check him out... you won't go wrong.

Its called "Pre-AF". Set it to off. This is for turning the EVF sensing off.

"Live View Display" turns live view on/off.

If I understood the Friedman ebook, the 'Pre-AF' is entirely something different and nothing to do with the LCD/EVF. It tells the camera to try to focus on whatever it's pointed at before the shutter button or BBF is pressed. I took it to mean the camera would be continually trying to focus all the time. Did I interpret wrong?

Nope, went back to check. It's on page 313, where he says basically what I paraphrased, and that it's a great battery-drainer.

Again, I may have read wrong, but Friedman's ebook indicates this feature is to set the type of information you want to see in the LCD and EVF. Like the histogram, etc. This particular setting is located on the Gear menu-1 as 'DISP button'.

Somebody stop me if I'm wrong. I'm reading the fricking thing now and maybe it's running together in my mind.

I'll be damned, you are right. I have one that was traded in and never even noticed that tiny little viewfinder on there.

Heh. That little viewfinder's location is what I really love about this camera. It keeps my big nose from squashing on the LCD.

Maybe, that's what I get for "winging"it". I thought it turned on the focus when you brought up the camera to your eye. You've got the book in your hand...I'm still winging it. :)

I WISH I had the book in hand. The ebook seemed a no-brainer cost wise, but I'd MUCH rather have a real book I could flip through, highlight, etc. Seems like I remember seeing $115 for the paper edition before going into shock.

I had to get my camera in my hand. (not winging it any more
:-) ) You turn on/off the viewfinder or LCD at this setting. "FINDER/MONITOR". Its in caps on the menu screen. You can set for "auto, viewfinder or monitor". Just did it on the camera.

You are so right. this camera is a battery hog. You better carry 2 to 3 extra batteries if you are going to be shooting all day.

Where did you get a battery grip for the a6000? I can't seem to locate one. Thanks, JH

Amazon. I believe the grip fits the a6000 and A7's.

Pre-Af nor "live View Display" turns it off. FINDER/MONITOR turns it off but it turns off availability to preview pic off also. I think I will just live with it and keep spare batteries.

I found that but it turns everything off - can't preview pics with that off.

Just push the play button when you want to see what you just shot... easy right?

And ALL mirrorless/hybrid cameras burn juice. That's literally the cost of mirrorless technology.

Personally, I have a two battery vertical grip and 3 spare batteries for my A77II which is a hybrid camera. I can get 4-500 shots on a battery depending on conditions and use. Usually around 430 shots per charge.

Turn off your WiFi and review and eye - start AF to save more energy. ;)
