I am going to Hawaii in June and I am looking for a good quality bridge camera to take with me along with my dslr. Would like a nice zoom range and a quality lens, if there is any. Have been looking at a LUMIX FZ1000K anybody have any experience with this camera or make any recommendations for one. Thanks
I bought the FZ1000 earlier this year to use when I just don't want to carry my Nikon D750 with all the lenses - or when I'm out biking. The image quality is excellent, it's easy to use, it shoots in RAW (a big plus for me), and I can bracket my photographs. I can't find a single drawback to this camera and am very happy with it.
I think Lumix is the best option. Mostly because of the 4k video out of which you can make 8mp stills if you want to. Price wise is in the same ballpark figure than the others. Good luck in your journey.jro
I have the Canon SX50 as a backup camera. Took it to Hawaii last year and used it exclusively for surfing and whale watching stills and movies with exceptional results.

The Lumix FZ1000 is an excellent choice. It doesn't have the focal range of the SX50 or the P900, but it does have a one inch sensor as opposed to the tiny 1/2.3 inch sensor of the SX50 and P900. Focal range is 25-400 mm. With a Leica lens IQ is excellent. Another camera with similar features is the Sony RX10.
This camera has a Carl Zeiss lens. I have a Canon SX50HS and while others love this camera I find it disappointing.
Good choices.
I would highly recommend you to take a look at the Popular Photography lab test (December 2014, page 86) giving thumbs up to Panasonic Lumix FZ1000 bridge camera. Nikons at that class don't have RAW filing and Sony RX10 has a shorter zoom.
I like this camera with extremely high resolution, (larger sensor), having all features for traveling photographers.
Can't imagine on my mountain climbing trips to carry an overnight backpack and any of my SLR's with several lenses?
I think this is an excellent tool, fast to operate - that will be very desirable for several years - before the technology makes another leap forward?
Cheers!
Thanks that camera is sounding better all the time
Take a look at the Nikon P7800. I really enjoy it.
Just got GAS attack and needed a travel camera, so went to Digital photogrhy review and ended a up getting a Sony RX100 M3
WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!
I just returned from a trip to the East coast and a few days in NYC. I was rather surprised to find that most people are now taking photos with their cell phones. I had just gotten a new Samsung Galaxy 6 and hadn't used it yet to take any photos so I also brought my Canon SX50. When I realized what good photos the cell phone took and how many controls I had in that phone I stopped carrying the Canon. There are now so many apps for photography it makes it so easy to just do it all in the phone. These were all done with my cell phone

The Sony goes to 400mm @ f2.8 with the 2X clear Image zoom ( must be shooting JPEG) - I have used the 2X CIZ - it is astounding !
