What photo's do you keep ?
"Which once again comes back to the fundamental truth that what works for one person will not necessarily work for another. Neither of us is right in absolute terms: we just know what works for us. It's up to others to decide whose advice they find more congenial. "
Thanks Roger, this is so true about some many things on this forum , let alone life.
Im very much a recent photographer (2009)and other than the total rubbish which is quickly deleted I keep the great majority of mine which i go back to now and again and see how i have improved since i first started those are examined and cropped further left or deleted

I keep EXAMPLES of most everything. When I've taken several photos of the same bird on the same post, then I'll screen them and pick the best one (or two) and delete the rest. But that still means that I keep well over half of the ones I take.
I eliminate about 1/3 when I down load them if the focus is off out they go. I shoot only in raw for about the last eight months. When I do the adjustments in WB I delete more. As i go along and through more steps eliminating duplicates and over of period of months I probably save 3-5 percent. The other day I went through my files and gained 17% on my hard drive. Some folder were completely deleted.
Agree with Roger...Pictures do change over time but if deleted may lead to regrets when you look for them. I have negatives, slides etc. in four file cabinets. Have converted some but have also deleted the obvious blurry and "unfixable "ones.
I keep most, except for the ones I don't want anyone to see that is, Bob.
I keep everything but the obvious mistakes (blurry, unidentifiable something shot at 45 degree angle). At this point it's a habit (maybe an OCD thing). It would be far too time consuming to weed out hard drives at this point... and... I... must... stay... consistent.....
I shoot a lot.
I do a "first cut" sort of cull; focus, really bad exposure, lens cap..etc.
Then I do a "quality of shot" cull and more take a hit.
I end up with about 10% keepers (nothing really wrong with them)...and 1% show offs. (shots that I think came out pretty darn good)
I shot 637 shots at the zoo this weekend. I'm still going through them and I hope to have 50 really nice ones at the end.

I guess I am one who sees potential in almost every shot so I tend to keep most. A shot that did not turn out to be exactly what I intended, may just be a great abstract piece of art...sometimes with a little tweaking. Since I do take more than one shot, I weed out the duplicates. In focus or out of focus, I never dump family pictures. Totally agree that the value of a picture can change over time.
I keep everything except real bad shots.
I keep everything and have plenty of storage.
only good ones,i don,t save junk
I am the same as yourself friend, I may shoot 50, 60, 70 shots and discover there may only be 5 or less I feel are the absolute best. I do a lot of continuous shooting, (Nikon D5100, also), which I believe accounts for the volume but what we seek I feel as artists are the beauty and perfections we may discover in this world. Keep shooting and choose your absolute best. One great aspect of digital,m no more film to buy and waste as a result of volume photo shots. Good Luck!!

I usually dump the ones that when I look at them I say I would never print and frame this, except for family pics. Same with posting on here for the most part. Not that all I have posted are print material but I will never post one I don't think has some quality, at least to me. I hate when people post saying here is a out of focus, blown out, tail cut off pic of my dogs butt I thought you might like to see...not!
I ditch most and keep the best and that is few. As time has gone by, I get pickier.
