But luxury has never appealed to me. I like simple things, books, being alone, or with somebody who understand.

I have my special connection, being in the woods, photographing birds, old cars, old building , any thing is old or should I say thing in the past.
Solitude is the cure for lonliness.

You are never alone with Christ!
Remember, that being alone, or getting some free time to contemplate one's life, or make photos, can be a luxury. There were many years that I had almost no free time with all the demands of the corporate and family world. I don't need a Rolls Royce for luxury. Just give me the time to do what I want to do for a few hours.
Of course, now that I am retired, my life is one of luxury. I have the time to do anything I want. It is a good luxurious life.
I never was luxurious nor can I afford to be. As in "I can't afford the luxury of". The meaning of which usually is, if a person does not heed the warning, he or she most certainly runs the risk of having his or her posterior soundly and financially blistered. This theory can also be applied to someone who may stray from wedding vows, rob a bank, both which commonly apply to politicians.
