How do I change a photos aspect ratio

I was wondering if it's possible to change the aspect ratio of a 3:2 (800 X 530) image to a 4:3 (800 x 600) without stretching the image or contorting it.

I've tried resizing the image, but all that does is screw up the image and/or make it look all crappy and distorted.

I use PhotoShop Elements V9. Thanks for any help.

not really. the aspect ratio is determined by the sensor in your camera, and there's not much you can do, short of cropping the image, to change it. some cameras, usually compacts, do offer the option of shooting in a different aspect ratio, but as far as i know, DSLRs do not.

Just changing the aspect ratio will distort the image. You have a couple of options though.
1 - you can upsize your image and then crop or
2 - you can increase your canvas size and clone in the extra, or with CS5 just use content aware fill ;-)
