When I downloaded and installed the lates Yosemite upgrade, it installed "Photos." Seems like a decent program, but it doesn't operate anything like IPhoto did, and I am having difficulty accessing new images to post to a forum I'm on a lot. I've searched Photos, find the images transferred there from the camera, but when I try to access them using Photobucket or an "add images" to add photos to my post, they're not there. Any suggestions? Should I completely uninstall IPhoto. Also, when Photos installed, I found an icon on my desktop titled IPhoto Gallery. What is that? Could it be interfering with what I am trying to do? I must be missing something here.
With just about any image editor or organizer, you can go into the software's "Preferences" menu and adjust it so that the software behaves the way you want it to - in this case, where it saves image files by default and where it first looks for image files to open. You control the software, don't let it control you!

Better off with Lightroom - much more bang for the buck, and if you get the subscription, you get an amazing photo editor as well.

Thanks. I've been wondering about that. Just as a point of interest, or perhaps a curiosity, I opened up my IPad and it doesn't seem to have that problem!
Hi
You have to re download iPhoto call apple and they will
walk you thru it. I use iPhoto on my Mac Pro I was really
upset with apple. They solved the problem. I don't download any
new updates

Really? Without even knowing his level of interest you say this? CC is not for everybody. Some people prefer the simple is better approach. They don't want to learn Photoshop. They just want to share their photos. Rather than just a knee jerk reply, why not try to gven some thought to OP's situation?
Unless you are an Apple hater then of course you have no choice.
One more thing you said "better bang for the buck" but Photos is FREE to Apple users, there is no buck involved. Hmmmmm.

Yeah Apple really didn't communicate well with users on the Photos release. Some here will tell you " Use Adobe" or "Use Phase One". But that is expensive and may not fit your situation. If it does great.
If not, There is some very good info on-line on what photos can and cannot do. It's more powerful than it first appears, but there are some basic fundamental items missing too.
It's similar to iPhoto in its appearance, but the sidebar is turned off by default. ?? But you can turn it back on. It's under VIEW->Show Sidebare. That helps a lot.
PM me if you would like a link to some good photos training. I have no vested interest but I don't want to post the link here as it might be considered advertising.
And do send Apple some feedback on your experiences with this release.
