I'm new to raw filing. Just got back from shooting in raw with my new D750. I want to use the photos in elements 12 to edit. I tried the tab open in camera raw but still can't open a picture. I know I'm doing something wrong here. Thanks

Download the newest version of Adobe's DNG converter OR buy Elements 13.

Try updating. You will find the update link under "help" on the top line.
I have elements 12 and shoot RAW. After downloading pictures into elements, click in your picture, then edit, and you can edit your RAW pic then open in the regular edit mode. Then you can save in JPEG, etc.

It is possible that the version of ACR is not the latest. In the help menu there is an update selection.

This is correct... Basically, Elements 12 is "too old" to work with the newer camera. And that leaves you with a choice of:
1. Adding an extra step to your workflow using the free DNG Converter. All your NEF files will need to be converted to DNG before you can work with them in PSE 12. But this is free.
Or:
2. Spend a few $ to upgrade to latest version PSE 13, which can be used directly with the D750's NEF files (i.e., the RAW converter is built in). There are likely some other improvements in the newer software, though I can't say what they are (Adobe has a comparison page on their website).
Contrary to some previous responses,
you cannot upgrade Elements 12 to work with D750 (there appears to be a typo on the Adobe website that leads to some confusion).
Support for that camera is only in Adobe Camera Raw 8.7 and later. In turn, ACR 8.7 and later is only found in Elements 13. The highest version of ACR that Elements 12 can use is ACR 8.5, which
does not support the D750's RAW files.
So the only way you can directly use Elements to work with your camera's RAW files is by upgrading to PSE 13. Otherwise, using the free DNG converter (and the extra steps involved), will work with PSE 12 (and earlier).
