Jerry,

I'm looking forward to retirement too but, the work I do is easy, and very lucrative. So it's hard to give it up, maybe in 5 years when I'm 72 or so. Beside that, I have Major GAS attacks.

If you enjoy it, why stop? Very few people love their jobs.

Thanks for the observation, I'd never thought, during all those years I was paying for my SS, I never thought the younger generation would try to take it away or cut it down. The demand for the fruits of others is truly saddening. There used to be a time (many years ago) that people worried the long haired young people would not be willing to fight this nation's wars. That was disproved emphatically, but now we seem to be in perpetual war. It seems we all have lost our way, and dont want to be reminded of it. End of rant.

For the past nine days, I've been working nine or ten hours a day in town. It was nice knowing it would be a limited engagement, but it left me no time to do anything - like UHH. I remembered what life was like when I was working all those years: get up, go to work, come home, eat, sleep, go to work...

Take my word for it, retirement is better than working. It's great being home again and having the day to myself.

I'm still doing the 40 / week. Probably will be for some time. However, I do have my evenings and 3 day weekends to do photography, and still have time for a beer - should I choose to.

Retirement is not such a good job. No holidays, vacations, or sick leave.

Within a month of retirement I was at work selling hardware. And a month after that I was part time security. When the hardware store went out of business I worked full time security and safety overnight. About a week after my Dad's funeral the chief was fired and I was next on the list so I quit and two weeks later I was in a satellite camera and finishing shop for 10 months demonstrating equipment that my customers then ordered from B&H. When the satellite closed--its best day was in December and I was responsible for $2500 in sales in 6 hours--a new outdoor store was opening in Kansas City and I was a long time customer so I worked there for six years. The company went public and the culture changed. I applied for leave for the week following Labor Day. About two weeks before I saw the schedule and I was scheduled for every day. I talked to the manager and he told me I could have the week days off but he could not do without me on the weekends--that left us three days to drive to and from the mountains. I gave notice and have been out of the workforce since.

I would a part time gig in a minute, but now I write, convert slides to digital and shoot some pix. I also do cardio rehab and we go when we feel like it. I was not ready at 55 (retired from prison admin) and I enjoyed what I did. But there comes a time.

Not retired but I am looking forward to it in the near future. Plan to full time RV with a home base for repairs. Do a reverse snow bird routine and follow the weather.

My old boss retired about seven years ago. He was the GM at the end. He told me that his only regret is he did not retire earlier.

I retired in 2013 for the 2nd time. Also retired after 20 years in the Air Force in 1997. Found a wonderful job in Clinical Trials and that was awesome until retirement.

No kids so we get to go where we want when we want! I love to drive, but do fly on occasion. Enjoy whatever life holds for each of you. I love my own schedule!
