Peak Bloom of Cherry Blossom in Washington DC from 04/10/15 to 04/12/15. Finally got around to edit these photos. Really crowded with people from all over the world. Seen at least a thousand serious photographers with DSLRs and tripods lined up the edge around Tidal Basin at 5:30am to shoot the sunrise. The Cherry flowers around Tidal Basin were really spectacular. Hope to come back next year.

I did have to make few tough judgement calls about tones of the colors because they were really high contrast so I am sure there will be many difference opinion about them. However, trust me when I say these photos did not even come close to the actual magnificent scenes that I saw. Constructive criticisms are welcome.

Thanks.

Shang,

Thanks. They could have been a bit better If I know how to use the HDR. For now, they all come single images.

Great works - thanks for posting them - this was the second year I had to cancel my plans for this shoot - It is again "penciled in" for next year.

You should definitely "penciled in" and go next year. Just make sure to check the blooming fore cast before making travel and hotel plans

I have that pretty well covered - My son-in-law works in DC quite a lot and I would share his room Mon - Fri and I have free air fare on the airline my daughter works for so I pretty much have a free trip - last year there was a family med. problem and this year my son-in-law's trip was changed to Atlanta so I have penciled it in again.
With an offer like this how can I not go.

Thanks. I tried to use (2) ND filters (2 & 3 stops back to back to mimic the effect of a Reverse ND filter but it did not work quite well. However, it certainly save me some $$$

Thanks for the reply - yes the CB Festival is on my bucket list and I am quite aware of the massive crowds of photographers & tourists I'm glad that I will have my personal guide as he has been working in DC off and on for several years and is quite a photographer himself - although I will only have him with me at evening and night he will be of great help. I plan on using the "Hop on Hop off" tours to see much more of the City. It would be nice to share some time with other HHs.

Thanks. I did met quite a few photographers out there and learn few things from them too. One of them is showing up before sunrise so you can take both night scene or dusk and sunrise shots...

So what time did you get there and how long did you stay?

I took a taxi from my Airbnb and got there at 5:15 am and I was not even to be the first one there, at least 10 of them!!! Lol. (DC metro is not run until 6:00 am). I continued taking pictures until 8 or 9 am, past sunrise, which was around 6:35 am or 6:45 am. However, the shots before sunrise were better than during and after...I guess I need more practice of sunrise shots...Plus the cloud was not that great 2 mornings while I was there (Saturday 04/11 & Sunday 04/12)...There are always next years...

Oops. I meant next year...Besides the CB, if you like aviation, you should definitely plan to visit the Udvar Hazy Center Smithsonian Air & Space close to Dulles International airport. Besides the B-29 Elona Gay, it has an awesome collectors of classic, WWI, WWII, comtemporary airplanes, plus few really amazing airplane engines and gears...See the engine that I am attaching with this reply.

I do have (2) more that were HDR from photoshop (do not know how to use photomatix yet). Each was generated from (3) bracketed shots. The Golden Sun-n-Blue is a bit better than the Fiery Sunset 2 (too much cloud movements).

Thanks. I was afraid it was a bit "too much HDR". Glad that you liked it.
