I'm running Lightroom CC on a PC but......I had the same problem when I first installed LR CC. Even though Lightroom was not open on my desktop, if I looked in the Windows "task manager" I could see that Lightroom.exe was running. Once I closed it through task manager I was able to start and use LR CC. I've opened and closed it a number is times now with no issues.
I's been a while since I used a MAC but.....I'd bet that there is something similar to windows task manager. Take a look.

Hold the command key and tap the
tab key to pop up a small window that will have an icon for each running app. Cycle through the apps with the tab key (again with the command key held down).
To quit an app cycle through with the tab key until the icon is highlighted and then (with the command key still held down) tab the "Q" key (for quit). When to let go of the command key the small pop up window closes.
Also there is a bug in the Adobe manager (the program that controls downloads and installs). Log out of Adobe and quit this program. Then restart the downloader program and log back in.
Great information Bob. Many thanks!
Had the same problem and the logout, login worked for me too.

TRC: That seems to have worked. I've just tried the HDR feature and have to say I'm a bit disappointed. Maybe I need to learn moreabout it but the effect compared with Photomatix is poor.
You are probably better off trying HDR with a stand alone product. Adobe Photoshop is not very good at HDR either. I never like any of the HDR I've tried, too many weird remnants and odd tones and fringing. I guess it ain't for me anyway. But I would like to increase my dynamic tonal range if it were clean without making an image look HDR'd.
I do like Photomatix and will probably stay with that. I've just tried an HDR in Lightroom CC and can't now find the resulting HDR image! Where will it be stored?
I found this out on Tuesday. Julieanne Kost offers great tutorials and presents them in the format you can grasp.
Not a fan of facial recognition. In the slide show, I do like the music option. Some how at 72, I still like Metalica. I have to take different pictures or different music.

On Photo Rumors, there is a free ebook on LR CC and photo merge and HDR. It will explain LR HDR and give you a different perspective. It did me. LR CC HDR theory is somewhat different then others.
That sounds good. Thanks for the tip!

I'm having trouble trying to find it on the Photo Rumors site. Can you provide a link?
This is how I get there. Go to Nikon Rumors main page....at the top you will see photo rumors, click on it...then keep scrolling down until you see the article.

I have just downloaded a 30 day trial of CC. I currently have Lightroom 5 running on an iMac (OSX Yosemite). The download was confirmed and the CC icon is sitting in the tray at the bottom of the Mac screen. However, when I click on it nothing happens. Any ideas please?
When I downloaded Lightroom cc nothing was happening same scenario. Adobe customer service had to remotely connect to my pc as the downloaded files were corrupt or and missing. 20 minutes later all's well. Get on to chat at Adobe, they will help
