My Sympathies to the Not-Yet-Retired

For the past nine days, I've been working nine or ten hours a day in town. It was nice knowing it would be a limited engagement, but it left me no time to do anything - like UHH. I remembered what life was like when I was working all those years: get up, go to work, come home, eat, sleep, go to work...

Take my word for it, retirement is better than working. It's great being home again and having the day to myself.

 Have to agree with you on that ... it did take me some time to get used to it, been almost a year, but, I'm there now ... !

The spousal unit has been retired for about two months, she has not come around yet ... I'm working on her ...

I have a few more years to go, 16 to be exact. But I will be 55, have my RV keys in one hand, and my camera in the other. I look forward to enjoying retirement as much as you all do.
-16 years and counting

The most peculiar thing is that periodically we have to take a vacation to get away from it all! Between our aged parents and grand-kids,we need an occasional break. We have no idea how we handled everything plus maintained jobs. I'd like to get a little part-time job,but I'm to busy and don't need any additional commitments. Go figure!

LOL I retired at 57. Wife still worked and I thoght "Oh boy!" let the fun begin. Being a novice I went right to work and installed a 24 ft round above ground pool. remodeled the kitchen replaced bathtub and re-did the walls etc. Painted the whole interior of the house. I just never slowed down. After getting all my "projects done I found I had nothing much else to do. Everyone I knew was working...So ! ! ! 2 1/2 years later ..... I went back to work. I worked 7 more years at a job I enjoyed and then just last January 2014, I had a heart attack.... That slowed me down for awhile but it also made me stop working and now I am enjoying myself. Wife had to train me to retire but she is doing a good job. I get out to do photos more now and am even going to dust off the darkroom. Shot a roll of film just the other day. I will shoot a few more and then play around in the dark room. If anyone gets the chance to afford to retire just do it. You will eventually learn to enjoy yourself.

I started my retirement training on the job at 55, I worked till I was 60. By 60 I was fully trained and ready. :) I will say it took me a few years of hard training to get ready, but it paid off! :)

Retired at age 51 at two-thirds salary. That was 21 years ago, and still don't have enough time to do all I want to do!

I do not miss getting up and going to work. I miss seeing my friends at work. the work was good but the BS was not. anyway, I am enjoying retirement and after working all those years, I feel good about not doing a darn thing if I want to. Nursing is a very hard profession both physically and emotionally, I worked nights for 10 years, that, they say really ages you. anyway, that's my 2 cents. deb
