Has anyone any experience with this lens? I am considering buying one to use with my D7100 instead of a 70-200.

It was designed specifically to give crop sensor shooters a similar lens to the 70-200mm F2.8 on the full frame bodies. Keep in mind that its a DX type lens, won't work on FX unless shooting in DX mode. Handy lens, I do have one, but seldom actually use it. Its one of the VERY few Crop Sensor EX lenses in Sigmas line-up.

I will be using it on a Nikon D7100. Reviews indicate it is much sharper than the Sigma 70-200 OS.

Actually the 70-200mm lab tests one tick sharper, but the lenses score equally overall.

Be careful how you read "reviews", most are quite non-professional and usually unsubstantiated OPINIONS by people wanting to make an impression, for whatever reason.

Results you indicated from DXO are for the non OS versions of both lenses on a D300. If you look at the results of the OS versions on a D7100 the 50-150 OS appears to be much sharper.

I apologize, you are correct. I had not noticed the non-OS selection.

I use this lens on a D7000. It's a large lens, same size as the Sigma full frame 70-200, and it's heavy. Having said that, it's a superb lens. Stays on my D7000 except when the 18-35 f/ 1.8 is on there. With the crop factor I prefer the 50-150 over the 70-200, unless you're going to go to full frame. If that's in the near future I'd have to consider the 70-200. I use a nikon 70-200 f/4 on my D600 and this sigma is every bit as good if not slightly better, and that's a very high compliment for the sigma.

I have one and it does thake great photos, but generally it is still my back up lens for my 70-200. I do have the OS version, not sure why on my D-7000 I still reach for the 70-200 automatically. I already dropped one of my 70-200's, so when I got this one for back up, the choice was because of price. Once I got it, the image quality is supurb. I think mentally, I just still use the 70-200 because it cost me more and I feel like I have to use it to make it worth it's price.
