Very interesting photos, Tom. I had never before noticed the details of the nest. I never got beyond noticing the wasp and then knocking the thing down. Of course, that was before I always had a camera nearby!
Nice shots!!!! the only shot those things get from me is Raid.
LOL Super shots, Tom, and you are indeed very brave. ;-)

Yes, they are nice photos. But the only good wasp is a dead wasp.
I don't care if they do some "organically beneficial" task in nature... I got stung so badly once, I wound up in the E.R. with anaphylaxis. Now, I wait until night time, and zap them with a dose of RAID.
They got so bad a few years ago in Charlotte that I had to shoot down 11 nests around our house! Seven were paper wasps and four were dirt daubers. One of the paper nests was about six inches across. I emptied a whole can of RAID on it... just about midnight.
Worse than paper wasps are ground hornets. You can't see them until you step on a nest, or mow over them, and then they're onto you!

I've been lucky with the ones around my house, usually one in front and one in the back....the one I photograph is actually on my front porch but out of the way...I remember years ago being in the woods I was walking thru a briar patch and it was sticking me or so I thought ended up I was standing on a ground hornets nest, needless to say, I leaned how fast I could run at the time....here is the last photo from last year..
