Bridge cameras are great for the advantage of small size and long zoom but don't have the image quality of DSLR. What is your experience with bridge cameras and have you found one you really like? I'm looking at the Panasonic LUMIX FZ200 which has many features but I'm not sure about the image quality. Have you used this camera?

The best digital camera I had, before I acquired my Nikon D700, a full frame DSLR and a great tool, was a Fujifilm S6500d bridge camera.

Even though the Fujifilm created great photos, I eventually "outgrew" it, prompting me to get the D700 which is in a different league.

The point is though; I still regularly use my Fujifilm, it's convenience
and versatility is such that the only way it will leave me is when its pried from my dead hands... or perhaps if someone gave me enough money
to replace it with a newer one. :)

Get yourself a "bridge" camera you're bound to love it.

I had a look at what DP Review said about the LUMIX FZ200: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/panasonic-lumix-dmc-fz200

And it seems the unit lacks dynamic range at the bright end. So you may want to continue your research of bridge cameras.

If it was me I would be prepared to sacrifice a few features
in order to obtain a higher image quality...
I really Appreciate "dynamic range".

Welcome to the forum!

You'll find endless discussion on this topic in the search function at top of page. Many happy bridge camera users on UHH :)

A lot of us have the Canon SX50. I have sung its praises as a wonderful alternative to heavy, expensive equipment for those who are on a budget, or with physical limitations, or who just like the ease of use.

I also have a DSLR (Canon T3i with quite decent lenses), but still very much enjoy dusting off the SX50 for a walk around a pond with my dog, or zooming far away to an eagle's nest or bighorn sheep in the canyon.

I am extremely impressed with some images I have seen posted here, and elsewhere, with the SX50, and just bought one for a friend on a limited budget but who wants to improve in photography. I will be playing with it myself while figuring it out so I can teach it to her, and am looking forward to it.

I am not real well versed in bridge cameras but many I looked at with this ones features and abilities were costing more. Again, I am NOT real familiar with all of them so one might wish to for more research. I am ordering for her because she is terrified of internet shopping. I ordered the Canon refurbished one which was at $199 . The price was right for my friend's budget and needs.

I love my D7100 and Big Tammy, but I am pretty sure I am going to prefer the weight of the SX50 for uber zoom. If I have enough fun with hers I may buy another for myself.

Full agreement with Linda from Maine. SX50 is great substitute from my D800e and weighs a lot less.

Don't forget that there is also a newer SX60 if you are going to buy new.

Got a Fuji S1 a few weeks ago. So far I'm very pleased with it.

This crop of a skylight, I lifted off the "Photography Blog review website, (Shot with an S1) still shows detail in the dark area which is a sign of a good dynamic range. Especialy as it was shot
in jpg.

Seems like an great choice of bridge camera to me.

I have an old 6meg S6500fd Fuji bridge camera. It's been
as reliable as a hammer and apart from being as versatile as a Swiss army knife it does great macros: thumbup:
