Amazingly enough, the glass tube containing lip gloss did not shatter.
When it comes to P&S cameras you can get a relatively large sensor with a short zoom or a relatively small sensor with a long zoom. Size and weight vary from 6-7 ounces to around a pound. Do you want a viewfinder? I recommend getting a camera with one. Prices also range from under $100 to $800-900. The cameras with the larger sensors are the most expensive.
I don't want to complicate this, but asking what camera should I get is like asking what car should I get?
Thank you everyone
this is all very informative, but I had no idea there were SO MANY! I think I will start my search with the 61 Nikon Coolpix models..then, on to Canon. Or maybe I just need a new purse :P

Hi everyone! I have a question
I normally shoot with a nikon d7100 and 5100 but I would like to know if anyone can help me find a nice "keep in my purse" point and shoot that can take good photos but still small and light enough to carry all the time. Any advice is appreciated
Thanks!
Check out the Olympus Tough TG1,2,or3 shock proof from 7ft and WATERPROOF to 50ft. 1 and 2 are older models but you might still find them new 3 is the newest and has wifi to connect wireless to computer and other devices . I have the TG2 and love it. There are even a wide angle and tele converter interchangeable lenses just like a DSLR has. and this is a pocket camera. Here iare reviews for 2 + 3.

I presently use only a Nikon compact. I have a P7000, P7100, and my now-primary is a
Nikon P7800. These cameras are not considered "purse sized" by many, but the advantages are many. They are solid, with all-metal bodies, but I think the slightly larger size and mass are worth it. The P7800 has an electronic viewfinder that I personally love love love. It shoots raw (NRW), and if you are already a raw shooter I believe you'd miss it if the camera you choose does not have it. As you are already a Nikon user, I would stick with the brand because there are bound to be similarities in the menus and controls; I would expect an easier learning curve. If I ever decide to move up to a "real" camera I will stick with Nikon for that reason alone.
BTW, Jerry, I agree that "Coolpix" is about THE worst possible name for these cameras! I hate it! :hunf:
I would recommend the Nikon 7800 as well. These are now discontinued seeing that the P9000 is on the way.
Shop around I picked one up last week for my sons gf at Best Buy brand new in box for only $200. This is for a camera that just a month ago was selling for $549!!
Hello Cat - I have both a Fujifilm X100T (recently given DPReview's Silver Award after scoring 80+%) and an older, well-used Nikon P7800. Highly recommend either for your purposes.
I just bought a great olympus 710 stylus on EBay for $10.00
Have you checked the Panasonoc Lumix DMC ZS 40?
18 megapixels, RAW, EVF (a must!) and a 24-720 mm zoom.
About $ 400
That would be my choice for a small, always handy notebook.
Happy shooting!

Exactly and therein lies the problem. Everybody's wants you to buy what they shoot with. The best thing you can do is look online or go to a camera store and handle the cameras and ask questions. Good luck.
