if you take the metro going north , at the last stop there is a great church to visit [ st Dennis ] where all the nobles where buried inside .it is full of tombs like in the movies .much more interesting inside then notre dame . you can take tour buses at the louvre museum to go to versaille or other places . Pigalle at night is a fun place near montmartre

Great city shots from the Montparnasse Tower office building observation deck, cheaper than the Eiffel Tower plus you will get the Eiffel Tower in your shot.

Fountainbleau Chateau. 40 min train ride from Paris. Studied architecture there one summer thru my US university. Incredible photo ops...especially the incredible gardens surrounding the reninessance architecture.
Bring a wide lens, and or, shoot vertical panoramas and stitch. Normal lens and maybe Marco too.

Wildlife - just look around in Paris. Some people are wild. Otherwise not much in Paris.

The Loire Valley is filled with castles and such. Accessible by train and fairly close. Not at all sure if it would work as a day trip as I haven't been there YET!

Landscape - try the urban landscape of the Paris metro. Some of the stations are very old and have great character. Use long exposures to blur people, moving trains to your desires. Don't set up a tripod in a narrow corridor, however. You will be trampled.

Lots of wildlife in Paris. Mostly of the two legged variety. Get a ticket for the hop on hop off bus. It will take you to all the major sights at minimal cost. Enjoy.

I agree with Foodie65, Monet's home at Giverny should not be
missed and it is a short train ride to Vernon and a cab to his home. You could probably arrange a day trip through your concierge. Versailles is out of site opulence , the grounds and gardens spectacular, make sure to visit Petite Trianon, Marie Antoinnettes little house. Take the subway to Mont Parnasse and climb up to Sacre Coeur cathedral you can look out over the entire city from there and the Eiffel Tower will also give you a fabulous panoramic. Try the Embarcadero youngsters always seem to be there trying out there skate boards, there is a course set up for them.

Hi Busby, I am getting excited just thinking about going to Paris - I spent a year there when I was 20 (50+ years ago) and we go back just about every year, sometimes for a few days, sometimes we take an apartment for a month and we try to stay each time in different arrondissements (sectors) to really soak up the local flair. We will actually be in Paris the first 2 weeks of May this year - coming up fast!

And ... contrary to many other opinions, you can actually see wild life in Paris, particularly in the parks, of course mainly avian and not particularly exotic (Butte Chaumont, Bois de Vincennes, etc). You got a number of good suggestions already from other posters, but just keep the following in mind: Depending on how much time you plan to spend in the city itself and the flexibility for timing you have, I would strongly suggest to visit Giverny and Versailles, etc but NOT on weekends or on local holidays, we made that mistake in Giverny once on a holiday Monday that we didn't even knew existed, stood in line in brutal heat for more than 2 hours before we could even enter, and then had masses of people in the gardens - by all means plan to go, but try to do it on a weekday when at least some of the locals are at work. This sort of also holds true for the major monuments in Paris, Sacre Coeur for instance is a wonderful place, but on the weekends it is choc-a-bloc full with tourists, many of which are weekenders from other European locations. By-the-way, another location I have not seen mentioned thus far is the Chateau of Chantilly in the north-east of Paris, easy to reach by train - a beautiful castle with a nice, reasonably sized museum, gardens and a very nice restaurant in the gardens.

Also, if you have the time, try not just to visit the major sights, but spend some time in the side streets and minor locations, you see a lot more of the "real" Paris there.

Practical tips: I post my pictures on my web-site and there are plenty of Paris and the surrounding areas, unfortunately they are often part of larger albums and you would have to do a bit of digging to find the Paris related pictures. All the pictures come with location information, so if something piques your interest, google the location or look it up on a map (google maps are great), or ask me questions. You can find my web-site by clicking on my name. About a year ago, I made up a one pager with info on lodging, restaurants, sightseeing, etc. If you are interested, I would be very happy to mail this sheet to you, just send me your e-mail address to

weberwest@hotmail.com

(I don't know whether I can do attachments on the private mail section of UHH)

Have fun preparing the trip and then on location!

I don't know anything about wildlife in Paris but when I was there I saw great architecture and street life photo ops. Side walk cafe's and adult bike riders with loaves of fresh baked bread ect. I wasn't heavily into photography then but as I look back I see how much of a photographer's paradise Paris can be. My nephew is going there for his anniversary next month. I'd love to go back and have a wonderful time capturing shots of that beautiful city. I love Paris and I think you will too. Have a great trip and get some great shots. Enjoy!

The only problem is that the trees have grown up and it is not possible to make a good panorama from the top that includes the Arch and the Eiffel tower.

You can spend weeks in Paris and find new photo
opportunities. Here are a few taken 2 years ago. Note: the Eiffel Tower and fireworks were taken July 14th ( Bastille day) and the animals can be seen at the "Jardin des Plantes" which is a garden and zoo.

Best of luck.
