What I would like to know is where the best locations are to take pics,

The best place to take the best photos is anywhere you want to be ... I just don't undertand your question.

If you get there before 7:30 a.m. parking is free and there are fewer people , I use a tripod 99.9% of the time, with a Sigma 150-500 sometimes its a bit much , but I get by, My 70-200 2.8 VR is on loan to my very best friend.
Enjoy your self , Remember, lock all valuables in your trunk.

All outside pens for the animals do not have bars in place. any animals that are in the Reptile house, Bird house or the primate house are behind glass enclosures. I go there quite often and have no problem using a tripod any where.

Not sure how long it's been since you visited, but be sure to go to the River's Edge section. It was added around 2000. This is the closest thing to animals in their natural habitat. The lions also have an unobstructed view. The Tigers do, as well, but you'll be shooting from above. Most of the other animals in the Big Cat Country section are behind mesh.

The great apes are in a natural habitat (The Wild), but you'll need glass that'll let you shoot from a distance.

Cheers!

I took the Metro to the closest stop (Forest Park) and decided to save money so I walked from there, getting lost in the process. Finally made it though and walked another 5 hrs or so. Now my feet are really sore. I probably took a couple hundred pics but I haven't offloaded them yet. I'll probably have the best ones on line sometime tonight. I went to River's edge (and most other places) but most of the big animals were hiding or inside. I pretty sure I have at least a few killer shots.

I didn't see a Steak-n-Shake. Maybe I would have had to drive down there. What road is it on? I'll post some pics now and more later.

Here's the best of the rest. Any CC on how I can improve composition of cropping would be appreciated. I'm just a shutterbug...not a pro, but I am always looking to improve.
