Just a little south of McDonalds. A little smog over Omaha.

That strange squiggle below the photograph is my "artistic" signature. Been using it since 1973.

I like this one. I like that you have varying heights to your lamb poles. With the taller/closer on the left going to the shorter/ further away on the right. The colors are gorgeous.
I would be tempted to clone out the tops of the trees. I also wish your moon was coming up between the left two poles instead of in the middle, but we can't have it all.

Good thoughts CM. I was tempted to clone out the trees but doing so leaves artifacts and I didn't want to be in trouble with those who go over prints with all kind of strange devices to see if they can detect any shenanigans.

I still may do it because I I prefer this photograph thata way too. Sorry, disagree about the placement of the moon. But you will grant me that, right? However if you insist before your plunk down money on it I will have to reconsider.

It is your photo so you may and should if you feel so inclined disagree with anything that I say. :-D I don't think this is a right and wrong thing.

Strangely compelling as many of your images are. If I had taken this I would have bust a gut to get rid of the lamp posts and tree tops either in the frame or in PP. The sky and moon would work in a minimalist way on their own? Knowing less than zilch about this genre why does the photographer in this type of image include items that some would say intrude upon the scene. I have seen others do it Jim and really want to know what Im missing. Might help me understand why the thing still works with bits of pole and tree tops left in.

This photo has potential, but the trees wreck it for me.
The trees unbalance it and make it scream to have ground attached to it.

However, if it was just the poles present, with no trees, I think it would be very good.

The strange squiggle? KY?

I hadn't thought about it in that way Billy. I don't know any reason it couldn't work. Except that most minimalism has to do with the placement of "lines."

I am aware of the methods of a few minimalists. Piet Mondrian would spend days considering the movement of a single line in his paintings. Most of his minimalist work contained a decent smattering of lines - as did most other minimalists. Lines in relation to a plane. Lines in relation to other lines and each other.

A link that gives a look at a lot of minimal art:

Just got home, 11 p.m., from a three hour mass at St. Aloysius. Had to look at email first. I left a post up on the site all the time that we were gone so it said I was online but I really wasn't.

After a good night sleep I should be alright - even after two more masses tomorrow. I think I'll be a little sharper by then. One can only hope.

I tried it with two suggestions that I clone out the trees. Sorry, but it didn't work for me. I know it become more minimalist looking that way but minimalist can have a few other objects. I could try a ground but I did that with "Moonrise Over McDonald's". It was just ok.

I feel this is stronger with the tree tops. I have looked at it for some time and for me it works this way. With just the poles and moon it becomes desolate. When I tried it in b/w it was even more so. I didn't like the feeling.

I guess that means I am a minimalist with heart?

Thanks to the three Hoggers who tried to help. I'm sorry I don't like it your way. I know for you, if it were your picture, what you would do and I would probably like it a lot.

I could justify my choice by citing certain principles but that would get to be boring real fast.

Thanks for having a look and offering your expertise. I really do appreciate it as it always makes me really look at and think about what I'm doing. And, isn't that what this forum is all about?

KY - what is KY? Used to be a jelly for Alice and me. Or maybe Kentucky?

As a person who mainly takes pictures of nature, I was curious to see a picture taken in a parking lot. It was a lesson for me. I loved the contemporary look of it. The colors are great. In fact I loved everything about it....except, I would have to agree that it might be better without the the tops of the trees. Your picture opened my mind to the fact that there are possibilities in any situation. Thanks for sharing.

OK! Thanks for the kind comments.

You make the third person for taking out the trees.

Oh well, if anyone else comes along with the the same critique I may have to try it again sans trees.

Thanks CM.

But I'll have to give in to the consensus.

Now what to do? You are the only photographer who liked the trees better. I mean, beside myself at the time.

Thanks for the comment - it carries much weight.

Link to the doctored version. As with all operations these two have scars.
