I agree with the critique about number 1 if she turned her head to the right so you got a profile it would be better. number 2 is just not interesting to me, backs of people are only interesting if they are wearing funny tshirts or coustumes. even then not seeing a face is unsettling. Your portrait is very nice, it would be nicer if her eyes were open. Good job keep it up. Could you do me and the older generation who despise texting as an abomination inflicted upon english by the prince of darkness himself. Could you spell out your words I dont care if they are mispelled but I dont speak textlish and dont want to. There is a special level in hell reserved for the person who invented texting and slashing the english language to slang trash. between texting and schools dropping cursive writing the ability of the younger generations to write a letter is being obliterated.

I guess we are showing our age, I do prefer things written out as well.

I do like her work. I know it is preferable to see people from the front but I have seen some really awesome shots from the back as well. It always amazes me how people view photos differently and how we are drawn to different styles. Gotta love it!!!

Kathy that is one of the entertaining aspects of these sites for me, to see all the different responses to the same picture..

Yes, you can have ten people critique and you can still have ten different opinions. I had a fellow photographer once tell me when I mentioned about taking photo classes, he said make sure you stay true to your own style and not just copy others. I'll never forget that. We can take their criticism and suggestions but then make adjustments to make them truly your own style.

You will never please everyone, so don't try, as long as it is what you really like it's fine. Photography is so subjective.

I like the picture from the back. It tells a story about a daddy with his little girls. It conveys emotion and I think that is the most important aspect of photography, to convey emotion and tell a story. I don't need to see the faces to feel the emotion.

You are so right Kathy. Everyone views things differently.

Candid or un posed shots often shot often come with pleasant surpises.
You do very well and your family must have made you the family photographer.
I know I would if I was in your family. A thing that I learned about taking pictures as you do is that when you just shoot in a relaxed and comfortable way you will get some wonderful results (as some of these you are sharing). You must know that a professional photog. often takes dozens, if not hundreds of pictures to get one that is considered good. So you are right on track with what you are doing without going through all that.
Good luck and keep on shooting.

Though I'm new as you know Alanna, I agree with Leopold Lysloff. Though my favorite is number 3, I do like all three of your shots.

As a newbie to photography and this site I can only encourage you to keep shooting. I also hope to incorporate more natural shots of my family. Thanks for sharing
