I FINALLY GOT ONE!!!

One of the most beautiful of the raptors, the Swallowtail kite is known for graceful flight featuring high speed swoops and dives.
Recently I spotted several of these gracefully bird soaring over the pinelands in the everglades. These two got low enough to be in range of my long lens.

Nikon D800 with 200x400mm lens with TC1.4--hand held to track racing birds.

Thanks for looking.

Great shots Larry, love the colors and detail, very well done. Super raptor, enjoy seeing them

Excellent shots Larry of a difficult subject to capture. Certainly one of my favorites! We have them here but it has been a couple of years since I have spotted them. Thanks very much.

Thanks FrodoBaggins for your kind comment. It is much appreciated. While I see them on occasion, this is my first successful capture.

Congratulations, Larry, and great captures! I saw one on three different occasions around this time last year, but didn't manage to get off a shot! Fantastic!

Thank you Swamp-Cork. These guys were soooo high, I thought they would never get low enough for a shot. I finally got lucky when these two made a dive. Made my day.
I really appreciate you looking.

Beautiful shots Larry. We spotted one over Everglades City last week. Just a tantalising glimpse and it was gone.

We have the Red Kite over here having been reintroduced after it was persecuted to the point of extermination. Numbers now recovering.
