This is my first attempt at displaying a photo. This picture is one that is in my second children's book called Lucy Ladybug's Backyard Adventure. I thought it was awesome to see two stages of the butterfly at one time!
This is an excellent close-up photo (less than life-size) of a Black swallowtail (Papilio polyxenes) caterpillar and chrysalis. Question: Why is chrysalis upside down? Was this photo taken indoors on a table-top set-up? Notice the silk "girdle" thread that holds chrysalis in their natural upright position.
If you have any true macro-photographs (life-size or larger), I invite you to participate in our Ugly HedgeHog "True Macro-Photography Forum" http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/s-102-1.html
There ended up being three chrysalis on this plant and two of them were hanging down. The other was up. By the way the hanging down ones came out earlier and were a lot bigger. I'm not sure why.
