TP-Link-I didn't Brick it!

I saw a link on here last week for the TP-Link $34 on Amazon.

I ordered it and started looking up information on how to change the firmware without bricking it. I downloaded the free app from the Android store. (Don't do that-it's obsolete.)

When I got the firmware loaded, nothing happened. Back to the internet, I noticed people referring to the DslrDashboard app with a q in front of it. I found out that the q changed everything. I was concerned when I had to re flash the firmware but it all went fine when I did everything in the right order.

If you think you have bricked your TP-Link - go to this link and flash it again. Then maybe read the nice manual. http://dslrdashboard.info/introduction/

This thing is nice!

TP-Link makes many different products... what were you working on? Were you trying to make a remote?

Yes, I have it connected to my D7100 and wirelessly connected to my Nexus 7.

I downloaded the software to send it to my PC, haven't had time to mess with it. I think that it can load right into Lightroom.

It's so much easier to see what I'm doing on my Nexus 7 than on the camera. It even does brackets and focus stacking.

You're right, I missed the point.

I could have saved a few hours of trauma if I had read the instructions at the END of the manual.

I got one of them last June, played around with the setup for a while, got advice here, then put it away - still not working. Maybe I'll take it out in June and try again. Thanks for this link. I added it to my collection of links.

I saw you say that you didn't get it working, I was hoping you would try it again.

The magic is at the end of the manual. Don't read all the old stuff on the internet, I got lost in that stuff for hours!

Also look at http://dslrcontroller.com I have used this one for the Canon and it also has the software for the TP-Link But be aware there are 2 versions of the TP-link and you must use the correct firmware file to make it work.

The developer no longer supports that version. That's the weeds that I got lost in.
This is the new version that does both Android and ipod http://dslrdashboard.info/introduction/

pop the battery out and it clearly tells you which version it is.

I've read about this on UHH a number of times, including the link to the setup that you (Gene) posted some time ago. It is a cheaper way to go compared to the Camranger unit ($300+) for sure. But I have an Apple iPad. Is there software/firmware that would allow it to be used with Apple tablets as opposed to an Android unit? I know that the Camranger can be used with either format, just looking for a cheaper alternative. Thanks in advance. I've learned a lot from all of you folks.
