Hmmm. My desktop came with Win Vista which I upgraded to Win 7 when they had a special promotion deal for $50. My Toshiba laptop came with Win 7. Wondering if Win 10 is any good and worth the upgrade.
I certainly won't be first in line to find out how well an operating system upgrade works. I have too many applications, programs, drivers, etc that might not make the trip!

I always like the following quotation from Alexander Pope.
"Be not the first by whom the new are tried, Nor yet the last to lay the old aside."
Since MS expects this to be used by so many, I hope they have most of the bugs worked out when it becomes available. I'll wait till I hear that it's working.

It always seems one of the first upgrades is to always address all the security issues that they didn't realize till it was used in real time. Just like a car many people say never buy the newest model. I am interested in using it but not till I hear how many backdoors they have to find first.
Wonder how free all this will end up being? For instance, when I download Windows 10 will my current Microsoft Office set of programs work, or will I have to purchase a new one that works with Win 10? And how about Outlook? etc.

According to the link above it will be free the first year therefore making it a pay as you go software.

Microsoft will also be discontinuing Internet Explorer, so if you are using that as your browser presently, find another one like Firefox, Chrome, Opera, etc. Apparently IE just has too many bugs and Microsoft is working on another browser without the inherent issues of IE.
I wonder if Microsoft will tally all the bootlegged software and use the number as lost revenue for tax purposes?

jerry, if one goes to Microsoft.com there is a Video that has been posted by them about this. It is a lengthy posting (over an hour) about what it will do and how. They also state within this video that it will be free for one year to current owners of windows 7, 8, and 8.1. and is supposed to be the last ( ahem) version of windows. It also is a prep for the inclusion of 3D displays.

I'll be darned, Jerry. I taught college English for 20 years, but I never expected to see a quotation from an early 18th century poem on UH--or anywhere, for that matter, now that I'm retired from the classroom. I love Pope, especially his humorous "Rape of the Lock," a mock-heroic poem about a lady's hair.

That's wrong, there is no cost to upgrade for one year after release. Once you upgrade there are no further charges - ever for the OS

So, what I'm going to do is upgrade my XP computers to a bootleg Windows 7 and then install Windows 10.

I hope you are right. But I have learned that there is no such thing as a free lunch.
Ultimately you always pay for it in the end.
