You've narrowed it down to two great cameras, I'm thinking about buying the X30 to replace my ageing P7100. Another one you might want to add is the Nikon p7800.

If you are replacing a P7100, why are you thinking about the X30 and not the P7800? I think the P7800 is over my price limit.

The last time I looked, the P7800 was going for $499.00, the same price as the G16. I really like the retro looks of the X30 and it's a about the same size as a P7800 and I wont be giving anything up in the image quality dept. in fact, the X30 has a larger sensor and shoots faster.

I'm planning on a new P&S camera to use for situations where my DSLRs are either not available or not appropriate. My major requirements include pricing under $500, high overall picture quality, reliable durability, useful viewfinder, built-in flash with hot-shoe, and sensor performance. I've reviewed many fine models and narrowed the list to these:
Canon G16 and Fugi X30.
Comments and suggestions are welcome. Thanks.

Go with the Canon I have an older Canon G10 that I carry hunting and fishing, small and is wonderful. Shoots Raw,but I never use it. Takes just as good pictures as my D7000. Im sure the later models are even better. Here is a picture I took on this seasons deer hunt. I would love to have the G16, but i'm never getting rid Of my G10. I also have a tele lens for it.

The P7800 is highly discounted now in anticipation of the upcoming P9000.Best Buy has it on sale now for $412.

It shoots raw, has an evf, pop-up flash, hot shoe, articulating lcd screen and all of the dslr settings that you can use.

Nosaj, I suggest you also evaluate the Sony DSC HX50v. $368

Mod mine to take 37mm filters. Protected back with sun hood. This is a very small "pocket" camera. Mine came with case and memory for $189 refurb via Newegg. Six months now and still amazed with this camera, the DSLRs are now dusty.

Thanks for your suggestion. I will put the P7800 on my short list (which includes the G16 and Fuji X30).

I would also recomend one of these. Have the 50. I think better than 60. Good prices out there right now for the 50.

With the canon SX50 you will be thrilled as it is a great camera and $300.00 under budget.

Thanks for replying. But budget is a strict one, so, I won't go over $500.

Bought a HX50v but was unusable in bright sunlight...good photos but lacking a viewfinder and the add on viewfinder that Sony had for sale costs almost as much as the camera. If they would just put a viewfinder in I would buy it in a heartbeat. Panasonic ZS40 has at least something you can use for a viewfinder. What the heck the selection of cameras with viewfinders is shrinking daily. What is with these Camera manufacturers ....don`t they go outside or just take their photos in a closet. I go to the beach and always see a mother with a towel over their head and over the camera trying to get a shot of their kids or whatever

Looks like you have determined it must be one of the two you listed. Both are fine choices. You will be happy with either. Toss a coin. Buy. Enjoy.

The G16 has a view finder and a 1.8 lens very good low light capability. You won't be disappointed with this camera. Go for it.
