It's not that complicated. It's a matter of personal choice how one wishes to be referred to, although there may be legal ramifications. But I don't know why camera and sensor manufacturers would care to get involved in what is largely a civil matter.

I keep reading about low pass filters (anti-aliasing filters) and am curious about what they are and what they do. I did a search on UHH and found several somewhat answers as well as reviewing a link posted referencing a Wikipedia article. I am now more confused than ever. Can someone please explain what this is and what it is for in simple terms. Thanks.

Something that was VERY important with 1.2 MP sensors and is less important the smaller and closer together the sensor site clusters get.

In audio, a low pass filter stops high frequency sounds. Useful when trying to record an intelligible voice in wind, or to cut hissy noises.

Since you ref."Wikipedia", look at Nyqvist-Shannon sampling theorem for digital sampling theory. In short, sampling an analog signal creates a periodic spectrum at the sampling frequency. The spectrum creates both positive and negative signals about the center at periodic intervals. The low pass filter is used to cancel most of the adjacent negative values of the next periodic frequencies which can contaminate the desired portion of the basic spectrum.
Difficult to explain! Maybe some mathematicians can explain it better

Best answer ever!
Since 1969, I have had to pause and think every time whether a low-pass filter wipes out the low stuff that tries to pass or allows the low stuff to pass through unfiltered while wiping out the high stuff. Now I'll remember.
