Excellent shots, Jolly Roger. The first is definitely a goose, but sadly I'm not an expert on variety. Well done, tho.

Thanks Treepusher for your comments. Much appreciated.
I've been on the RSPB website trying to identify the first one but still haven't succeeded.

Thanks for your comments Jim. Much appreciated.
Identifying that first one is really bugging me. I checked out the RSPB website but without luck.

The goose looks like a Greylag Goose according to "Birds of the World" by Harrison and Greensmith. According to their distribution map, the Greylag can be found in the UK. Hope this helps.

The gull looks like a Common Black-headed Gull. It is found on the UK side of the Atlantic. On the east side, we have the Laughing Gull, with similar markings. The eye ring of the birds are different, with the Black-headed Gull having an incomplete eye ring and the Laughing Gull having a broken ring around the eye. Whew! That was a lot of work!

We do see common black headed gulls up in Newfoundland.

Thanks for your help OkeRon. I also thought at one point it was a Black Headed Gull but when I checked on the RSPB (Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) website they say the head is brown not black. I am therefore still a little unsure. The eye ring seems to match though. I really appreciate the time and effort you have put into this.
