Four years ago we stayed at a campground that had a lot of osprey in the trees nearby. They used to fire a shotgun not at them but the noise kept them from nesting in their trees. Seems the poop was killing their trees.

I've been trying for weeks to get a reasonable shot of this osprey nest and its contents a few street away from where we live. Every time though either the light is wrong, the occupants aren't home or the birds were hidden. As you can see from the second image, their nest on this bit of sculpture is fairly inaccessible. Anyway, yesterday evening Noelene and I staked the place out and when this one returned with a rodent I got on the roof of my car (parked in the middle of the road) and shot the bugger! By the way, the building on the right is a private residence - eight bedrooms apparently!

Good for you! You wil not be defeated! Did Noelene happen to get a shot of you?
Well done!

Good idea actually Kathy; the shotgun thing. This is just one nest and the mess is incredible. They sure must eat!

No she didn't Ellie; I got a few of her though. I had my camera trained on this bird for quite some time because those metal flaps were either obscuring it or casting a shadow. Plus I thought it was going to fly away so I wanted to be ready. Eventually the sun sank low enough for me to get this picture but by that time I'd had enough and wanted to get home for dinner  And dear Noelene didn't complain the whole time we were there.

Nice captures Paul but it could have been a little better if you had a drone... :)

Now that's an idea Bruce; I like that. Actually, you could get some stunning shots that way. On second thoughts though the birds might not me too happy and may attack it - expensive experiment perhaps?

Great picture Paul, I would have to drive 800 miles to the top of Scotland to see these magnificent birds,

Gee, I never would have realised that. Amazing what you take for granted in your own back yard isn't it? Thanks for popping in Geoff, cheers

Thanks for looking and commenting Jan. The problem is that this nest is right outside someone's very expensive house and the mess from a few months of pooping is unbelievable! The house has glass balustrading too and the birds like to roost on there (probably the view  ) so make a lot of mess there as well. I bet the owners will be glad when the birds leave then they can contact the council and see if it can be cleaned up. Still, us humans can't complain about messing the place up can we?

Wow...i bet that does create a mess for them :( Maybe they can be encouraged to nest somewhere else.

And there is a terrific fish and chip shop close by and two great pubs on the water.... HEAVEN!

Getting a bit built up I'm afraid Jan, though the council have put a few tall man-made platforms up for them. Got to admire this bird though for the foresight to think, "Bugger your sculpture, nice place for a nest!" Actually, the funny thing is that underneath the sculpture are seats that no one dares sit in for obvious reasons.
