Hi! I'm Kristy and this is the first photography forum I've ever joined. Lurked around a little and really like the laid back yet informative nature you have here.
Growing up I hated cameras. My mom always had one in her hand, which was fine but I was usually her target. I don't take a very good picture... It wasn't until I bought my first digital camera, a Kodak Z720, that I realized they weren't bad. Infact I love being behind them! It was fun taking pics with it but when I bought my horse in 2007 that is when the photography bug bit me. And it bit me hard! I documented everything that horse did, even just standing around grazing. Then I started taking it with me on trail rides and 4x4ing runs. Started taking landscape photos and then my soon-to-be step kids on their dirtbikes.
That Kodak gave me wonderful memories for several years before finally wearing out and I upgraded to a Canon SX30is. That camera taught me how to shoot in manual mode without the learning expense of a true dSLR. However it wasn't quite a year later that I bought my Canon T3i.
Right now have my T3i with a 50mm 1.4 IS, 18-135mm IS, 70-300mm IS, and the 70-200 2.8 IS.
I'll post some pictures when I get home or you are welcome to check out my site at
www.spottedhorsephotography.netI try to get the shots I want straight out of the camera with little to no editing afterwards so you are not going to find HDR from me. I think the most editing I've ever done is to the portrait photos and playing with the colors of a couple sunflower photos I took. Constructive criticism is always welcome but I'm still new to this so don't destroy my confidence. ;-)
Glad to see you joined (this is TheRedHayflinger from BWF, btw) :D I do more reading than posting here, but I've enjoyed the last several months of being here
Glad you pointed it out!
I hope to be able to pick some brains and gain more information. I'm real limited in photography people I know so this will really help.
I have the same problem! and out of the handful of people I do know, 95% of them just started out with a camera themselves! LOL
Exactly! I know 3 photographers, 2 live in other states, and the 1 that does live near here it's like pulling teeth to get any information. Other then that everyone is new or not interested, therefore no help.
Welcome to UHH. Post photos when ready. Love horses.

Welcome to the forum, Kristy.
Great shots you've shown us. Most, however, seem to have their color saturation and contrast pushed a bit too high.
Thanks, I'm glad to be here!
I have been told that before about the color. It's more pleasing to my eye and just my thing. I don't do that on all photos, but I do do that to mine. Kinda like the people that Vinaigrette everything. Life is full of color, it's not muted and washed out. Just looks more real to me.
Yes, on a couple of them I did push the contrast kinda high. I don't like to do a whole lot of editing after I take pictures but sometimes when I'm sitting at home bored I will pick a photo and just play with it in Photoshop. I still have the origionals but something about the unreal in these appealed to me. I try not to do this unententionally. Usually if I find the contrast too high I fix it. I don't usually like my photos unrealistic.
Thank you for the critique. :-)
