I'm guessing you shot in aperture priority; at f/9.

Right?

I'm also guessing that these shots were taken pretty much one right after the other...right?

They seem to vary a bit in exposure...I think I know why but I want to verify what I guessed above first.

How did you know F9 though!? NIce!
Yep. Dead on your guesses. The Great Carnac?

Lol...nope....not even Ed McMahon. :)

I just noticed that the camera saw each of these scenes as different exposure values, and adjusted the shutter speed and therefore the overall exposure differently on each one.

People ask "Why shoot manual?" and this is a great example of why to do that...the light didn't change on this scene (you knew it...but your camera didn't. Everytime you reframed it decided that the amount of light was different because of the tones ability to reflect light changed.

And the next poster after me mentioned that #1 should be brightened... :)

If you want consistency then you have to shoot manual....that's all. (and having an incident meter would allow you (in this situation) to have had a perfect exposure)

They are spectacular shots....don't get me wrong...I was just going off on a tangent...they are great and the colors are awesome.

This is very nice.
If it were mine I'd knock down that bright white spot to the left of the barn. Maybe try clone tool as in attached example. Wouldn't take much to do and would remove a distraction.

Mtn Man.... If you would have downloaded the photo, you would have seen that bright white spot is a horse trailer. Why would you remove it, it's part of the scene? Just wondering.

Rico... Check your original raw photo and see if there is any noise in them when converted, if not it's in the PP somewhere.

I did download and couldn't see that in the one I downloaded. But anyhow the reason to dim it is that it isn't the main subject of the picture and by being so bright distracts from the main subject.

Here are three images of a scene in Utah of a horse in a field.

Curious as to your opinions on which strikes your respective fancies.

I see another view. Photo 2 with a tighter crop.

I think this crop captures the essence of the photo. The intriguing thing is the fences. Why so many fences?

I pick #2 but I would have gone with #1 if it had been lightened.

They put animals in one field at a time to allow the other fields to recover.

The second one is a more balanced picture in my estimation. For some reason the first two have a lot of noise the sky, which I have seen in some of your other photos. You might want to try experimenting with some of the different setting on your camera, to see if you can eliminate the noise.

Mike

What settings might be causing the noise?

In my manual for my Canon Rebel t3 it says that high ISO settings will cause excess noise. Try limiting the max auto ISO setting.
Also, the second photo is by far the best in my opinion.

I'm not sure why there should be a lot of noise in the photo. The ISO was 100. What gives?

Hi Mike-

I checked the raw files. Didn't see any noise.

Hmmmm.... that obviously is not the problem then. Sorry I couldn't help. You might want to post the shot in the analysis forum asking specifically about the noise problem. Maybe someone there can answer your question. Good luck.

Rico... Glad to hear that. Then it's either the HDR or something else you might have done in PP. I should have thought to have you check the original at the first...;0)
