Please do not get irritated with my short and stupid Q.
I finally bought a Flash . B&H will provide controller TX in 2-4 weeks.
Q: Can I somehow disable the popup flash on Nikon 7100 and still fire the Yongnuo as a slave? = off camera ???

I tried to read the horrible Yongnuo manual and go thru Nikom menues - but no answer.

(I can fire Yongnuo as a slave 1 or 2 with popup , sure)

Thank you M

You will need to get some triggers. Pocket wizards are the top shelf choice and Cowboy as well as many others make some cheaper ones.

I have been using the Yongnuo YN622 ($77.00 per pair at Amazon) triggers and am really impressed with them. I have a Canon 5D Mark II, 5D Mark III and a 7D. These triggers allow me to control my 580EX-II flashes from the menu in the camera. I can turn high speed sync on or off, switch from E-TTL to manual, adjust power levels all from the camera menu and they cost less than half what Pocket Wizards cost.

If you use the new Yongnuo YN-622C with LED display you can do all that from the LED menu on the trigger mounted on your hotshoe and NOT have to dive into the camera flash menu/submenus. FAR easier to control your flashes! I have one and find it extremely useful. Has never failed to fire except the rare times I forget to turn the speedlites on!

Thank you all for such a quick response.

However ...are you sure it (Yongnuo YN-622C TX -E-TTL)will work on Yongnuo 560 IV ? I mean, without one more trigger mounted-needed for the flash itself?
I have read that TTL triggers will not work on manual flashes w/o additional triget on flash.

I do not want to go to elaborate (and bulky) equipment. This is why I bought the simplest flash for the beginning/end. I have no studio ambitions!

PS: my pop-up GN is 12m/39' anf Yong GN is 58 (meters..looks too much, feet too little)

No, Yongnuo released this product for the Nikon first and we Canon users had to wait many months for it to finally be released for the us.

There is a Nikon trigger available. It is a very functional product. Have enjoyed mine for some time now.

You must have one on the camera and one on the flash. Then you can control the manual flash without having to dig into the camera menus and without having to change the settings on the speedlite itself - especially handy if your speedlite is remote or enclosed in an umbrella.

It is not bulky - about the size and weight of a pack of cigarettes.

Thank you very much for the clarification. I found it later...searching only the B&H. It got somehow hidden to me.

Your best bet is to use the controller. But, if you do not have the controller you next best bet is to use the optical slave. Set the Yongnuo to slave 1 and set your pop up to a very low power. The popup will cause a small catch light in the eye but will contribute almost nothing to the exposure.

You will be surprised how little light it takes to trigger the slave.

Actually the Yongnuo triggers are excellent and they will work perfectly with the Yongnuo flash. If you buy a pair--which is how they normally come--they can trigger your camera and flash both.

And yes, the Yongnuo "manual" is almost as bad as the Sony manual for my a6000.

Just for clarification...I use these triggers & flashes on a Canon.
Yongnuo 560 IV is a "Manual Flash'...that has a built in trigger. the Yongnuo RF-603NII-N3 triggers ($30 pair) will fire this flash. "Without" mounting one on the flash.
The 622 triggers are for ttl.And will fire the flash if one is mounted on the flash. But the TTL function will NOT work.
The YONGNUO YN560-TX remote controller-if mounted on the camera, will let you set groups & change the flash power remotely at the camera.
Just a note...the Yongnuo 560 IV Flash, has this - TX-controller built in, so if you mount this flash on your camera, you can set power and groups to other 560 flashes from it.
Hope this helps and isn't confusing - I agree, the manuals are terrible.

Thank you . I got it . My first try was the way just to simply cover pop-up...but I did not realize it is an optical trigger, so a little light is needed.

Thanks to all of you helping me, I am finally and mentally set.

I don't have a D7100 nor Yongnuo and recalling from memory, so take this lightly. I recall Nikon offered a flash filter that helped block the built in flash but allowed the IR command signal to pass. This was simply a plastic fixture that fit over the pop up flash. My Nikon (D800) has a Commander Mode that sends an IR signal out to trigger remote flashes. If the Yongnug 560 has the ability to trigger from these IR commands you may only need the plastic flash filter.

I have used the Yongnug 622 triggers for triggering strobes and flashes, they worked well. Also have used the cheap RF Neewer RT-16 triggers and they also worked triggering strobes.

I think you have lots of options available. Let us know how things work out.

BTW I am thinking of getting the Yongnug YN560 as a remote and the YN568 as a controller/remote to work with my Nikon SB800 & D800. I am waiting for Yongnug to solve a subtle YN568 issue with the Nikon interface. Late last year I had inquired about this and they had not solved the issue, and now I am having a senior moment and can't remember exactly what the issue was (think it related to HSS with SB800).
