When my wife and I visited the east monument around 10 days ago, I thought the afternoon light was a bit flat and not very promising for b&w. I was pleasantly surprised as the evening light actually afforded me some good opportunities.
Those are very nice photos. I guess I just never got into the B&W thing - I see your nice shots and want them to be in color. I think those clouds would be so much better.

It's an odd thing, one's taste in black and white. What I will note is that unless the color in the clouds is important, that is, sunset or sunrise, b&w will usually render clouds more dramatically.
But it may come down to whether you like blondes, brunnettes, redheads, or all of them.
