Those look like flowering crab apples. Similar to what are in my yard that I recently shot!

______________

I've yet to find a photo of the thousands now cluttering this poor laptop, worthy of treating with this method, but here's a different take on it.

The spider was plain and already against a white wall background... couldn't do much with it to make it pop... so here's what I did!

I kinda like it... not exactly done the way it's supposed to be here... but *shrugs*

I'll play tomorrow and post.

Meantime... keep 'em coming! I LOVE this!

I have a different way that may be noted, it is simpler to me. I use a program that de-saturates colors on 8 different color bands so instead of doing all that stuff with the layers, that I haven't a clue how to do, I just take away the colors I don't want and then i use a wand feature to clean up the colors I kept that are not in my subject. Here are a couple of my recent ones....

LOVE that flower one and the wheel with flags is VERY creative, too!
I use a combination of lightroom3 and picasa and occasionally, GIMP2.6 (for layering especially).
Before you mentioned it here... I didn't know about using lightroom to try this!
You can BET I'm gonna now! *snickers*

Thanks :)

Another way I used to do it required you to be rather precise. I would copy the photo, adjust one to B&W, and open both side by side and just use the clone brush to fill the color in. It was the only way i could figure out how to do it when I didnt know, but it worked well.

Alright! So from the help of a few good people on here (everyone is a good person, but talking about the one who guided me on how to do this). I can now finally submit a couple of my own.

Thanks for the help!!! Well appreciated!

The way I do it, in any program that does layers, make a copy of the original then a second copy of it. On the top layer, use whatever you progam does to make a black and white copy. With the b&w layer on top, zoom in on the area you want to be colored and carefully take your erase tool and erase. The colored layer below will show through... the closer you zoom in the easier it is to get all the edges clean. Good luck and please post a photo when you get one done....would love to see it.

I bet these would be great for Halloween if you just ad a texture to them. Google Chrome has a great app for that called PicNik...give it a look.

These look like flowering crab apples. I have a tree in my yard and my recent shots look similar!

You can't... *snickers softly*
It's all-good though. The photo is a pretty one, if not a candidate for the topic "selective coloring". :)

You'll get the hang of things soon enough... welcome!

They do look a lot alike don't they. How big was those when you took them? The ones I posed was only about 1/4 inch around. They was quite small...
