Interesting! I only have one DSLR, a Nikon D800E--I don't count my D1, as it's more an antique than a usable camera--and one SLR, a Nikkormat. I have 4 lenses for my DSLR and 3 for my SLR.

I don't collect lenses or cameras, other than my D1, because I usually roll over my gear, "trading up" rather than adding. For example, my D800E with a 24-70 mm lens only cost me $1100 plus my D300S and its 70-200 mm lens. (I may have tossed in another D lens; but I was movin' on up to full frame, so the D lenses we're going anyways.

Today I figured it would be a good day to make a list of my camera gear. I have a lot of this stuff and do not always remember what I have. And for insurance it is also good to have a list with some basic info and serial numbers.

So I started with my lenses. And I am already at lens number 45 in my collection and about half way through. Will be interesting to see on which side of 100 lenses I will stop counting.

Is this typical for you folks here on UHH, to have that much of camera gear?

D3100 and D90 and 24 lenses...some duplicates because of the way bought things. Use? Typically the ED3100 and a Tamron 18-270.

My Thoughts as well ,currently 5 lenses & 2 bodies (d7000 with 17-50 sigma up 4 sale) and my d610 along with 28 mm 85 mm sigma 70-200 & last a (sigma 28-90 mcro also up 4 sale). I believe if you have the range you need in a good lens why be a pack rat . CJ , no offence but you only can use one lens at a time. uote=jerryc41]My son and I have a total of eight lenses between us. I don't hesitate to sell a lens when I get something better, or find that I don't need it. I've sold more lenses than I currently have.[/quote]

You can only use one lens at a time, but if you play your cards right, there will be a great many different times & different circumstances that require different camera bodies & different lenses. Bab

I have 3 Nikon Bodies and and six pieces of glass. If I win the lottery 2 more Nikon bodies and a bunch more long glass, so I can make them come to me.

I have more lenses, and camera bodies, than my wife knows about ( they pretty much look the same to her). I will leave it at that.

Why so many lenses? Waste of money. I have one film camera with three lenses, which also fit my digital. I bought one more zoom recently. However I have or had 300+ cameras in my collection. I'm now trying to sell them.

I don't come close, I have around 25 or so lenses and I'm down to 6 cameras (I sold 4 SLR's in 2011).

I can understand five or six primes, and no more than two zooms (one for wide, one for tele, or just one that covers everything). But unless you are a professional and make your living at it, I don’t see any reason (other than you have way too much disposable income and have nothing else to do with your money) for the average photographer, amateur/hobbyist OR professional, to have 20, 40, 90 lenses… I don’t know that Nikon or Canon even HAVE that many lenses in their “arsenal”.

Right now, I just have two lenses, 50mm f1.4 and 105mm f2.5. Previously, I also had the 300mm f4.5. Never had a zoom or autofocus.
