For my rangefinder: 3 (21mm, 35mm, and 50mm) Maybe could use one longer one but I don't shoot telephoto with it as a rule so for now I am sticking with the "normal" to wide range for this body.

For my DSLR: 8 (14mm, 24-100mm, 85mm, 100mm macro, 70-200 mm, 200mm, and 100-400mm, and a 2x extender). Would like to add a longer fixed like a 400 as well as a a fixed in the 21 to 35 range but no rush because I don't often do supertelephoto shots and I use the rangefinder for most wide angle work or put on the 24-100 that is a pretty good lens for a zoom.

Not sure what one would do with so many lenses. But once you have your list of cameras and lenses with their serial numbers, get a rider policy from your insurance agent. Not very expensive, and will cover replacement from theft, breakage, fire, etc. Coverage beyond what your homeowner's covers.

Today I figured it would be a good day to make a list of my camera gear. I have a lot of this stuff and do not always remember what I have. And for insurance it is also good to have a list with some basic info and serial numbers.

So I started with my lenses. And I am already at lens number 45 in my collection and about half way through. Will be interesting to see on which side of 100 lenses I will stop counting.

Is this typical for you folks here on UHH, to have that much of camera gear?

My son and I have a total of eight lenses between us. I don't hesitate to sell a lens when I get something better, or find that I don't need it. I've sold more lenses than I currently have.

I have five digital cameras and ten lenses. I'm not counting the lenses I have which went with the film camera I haven't used in over ten years or the cameras and lenses I bought for my daughter.

Four camera bodies..5 lenses..3 speed lights..i feel totally complete..
and i use all of them for various projects..
anything more than that for me would be excess and such a waste..
if you don't use a lens then sell it for some extra cash..
sounds more like hoarding if they are just piling up in the closet..

Zane Grey wrote that if you know how many fishing rods you have you do not have enough. I have accumulated about 20 lenses over the years since 65 and my buddy Johnny left a tub of k-mount cameras in my custody when he closed The Picture Works and they did not go in the yard sale. I am not going to count--that will be my daughter's problem when they dispose of my ashes.

If you have more than 10 lenses, your focal lengths become extremely redundant.

Reading this thread has made me feel much better about having every camera, lens and every piece of camera equipment I ever owned, still around. I got my first SLR in 1964 so I've had many years to accumulate stuff. Now I know that I'm far from being the only one! In terms of what I have that I use, it's 2 camera bodies, about 6 lenses, a flash unit, 2 tripods, batteries and memory cards and some other minor pieces.

I have 2 Canon's, but sold off 4 lenses to purchase my 24-105mm. I use 3 lenses for the 70D, and a 18-270 for the 60D.
